It’s been more than 2 months since the COVID lock-downs came into full force. Everyone has had to adapt. Optometry and ophthalmology practices have had to not only ensure that their practices are safe for those patients who still do need to come in for a visit but work out how they can continue to provide good patient care and maintain relationships for the many who can not or do not want to come into practices at the moment.
These have been big adjustments and telemedicine, largely through video consultations, has played a part with the majority of practitioners having tried them. These video consultations go a fair way to providing that care and staying in touch with patients and certainly help patients feel the added comfort of being able to see and talk to their practitioners. This of course differs depending on what type of care the patient needs and the eye condition they might have.
We’ve already spoken about the use of telehealth across:
Now we want to make telehealth even more specialised for eye care by allowing patients to take a higher resolution photo of the outside of their eye to transmit through to the practitioner during a video consultation.
Here’s a video of how this new functionality works on Oculo: https://youtu.be/H-9t7lgiHL8
Having a photo from a patient’s smartphone will be higher resolution and less fuzzy than looking through a standard webcam on a video call so the practitioner will be able better examine the exterior or surface of the eye for general clinical use. This can come in handy for styes, blepharitis, subconjunctival hemorrhage, ptosis and other lid or external eye issues.
Over time we are looking to provide tools that help provide practitioners more and more information and data to better understand the eye health of their patients when using telehealth.
All of our customers using Oculo Telehealth have this new feature available for no extra cost from today to use straight away. If you’d like access to Oculo telehealth or have any questions please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
